George H.W. Bush Gallery of the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas

Expansion at the Nimitz in Fredericksburg — Celebration Dec. 4-7, President George H.W. Bush to be Special Guest of Honor.
FREDERICKSBURG, TX – President George H.W. Bush and Commandant of the Marine Corps General James T. Conway will be the honored guests at the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies for the newly expanded George H.W. Bush Gallery of the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas.

The events begin Dec. 7, 2009 at 9:30 AM. Also in attendance will be Governor Rick Perry; United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; General Michael W. Hagee, USMC (Ret), President and CEO of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation; John Kerr, Chairman of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation; Jon Hansen, Texas Historical Commission Chairman; and Mark Wolfe, Texas Historical Commission Executive Director.

The culmination of a weekend of activities, the Ribbon Cutting will open the new 32,500 square foot exhibition to visitors. Guided tours through the new Museum will be available through a timed ticket system from 12 Noon to 9 PM Monday the 7th.

A Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration will also be held Dec. 7 in the Memorial Courtyard at 12:25 PM, marking the actual time in Texas of the Japanese attack.

The National Museum of the Pacific War, a Texas Historical Commission property operated by the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, is located in Fredericksburg, Texas, the birthplace of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. It is the only institution in the continental United States dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific Theater of World War II. Its theme:
“We inspire our youth by honoring our heroes.”

2:00—5:00 p.m.—Musical groups, including the Bill Smallwood Band perform 1940s
period music in the USS Samuel B. Roberts Pavilion

Museum Admission and all events Free on the entire weekend of December 5-7 with the
exception of the Living History Programs at the Pacific Combat Zone and the rides in the
WWII aircraft.

Educational programs include: War on the Homefront, Hero Ships, Women in Defense,
The Battle for China, Fighting Lady Aircraft, The War in Texas, POW Camps in Texas
